Go Transport

Let’s get the traffic moving

  • As Mayor I will claim Wellingtons share from central government for transport and infrastructure and get the deals done
  • I will work with Government to accelerate building of city infrastructure
  • We need to double-tunnel the Terrace and Mt Victoria tunnels and see four lanes along Ruahine St to the airport. These billion dollar projects will enable integration between our airport and national highway system and provide more infrastructure for public transport, cycles and electric cars.

Wellington’s Mayor must lead on this and that is my commitment.
I will get Wellington ready for the next 100 years of growth and make this city a place where future generations can thrive.’

Go Global

Let’s connect Wellington

  • We need long haul flights to ensure Wellington’s relevance in the business world
We need to continue to investigate an airport extension
I will take the view of Wellingtons long terms interests, not the short term interest of airlines.

Wellington’s Mayor must lead on this and that is my commitment.

Go Bikes

Getting around needs to be easy and healthy

  • We need sensible cycleways and get it right with a cycleway solution that we can be proud of over the next 100
  • I have talked with the Minister of Transport and secured a “window of opportunity” to look at options to build an iconic cycleway for the city and to get existing plans right while still retaining government funding
  • Wellington should be the Mountain bike capital of New Zealand. We need to continue to maintain and develop our extensive mountain bike network.

  • Wellington can be the Silicon Valley of the South Pacific. As Mayor I will lead development of a Wellington Tech “field days” showcasing our innovation to the world
  • We are home to a world class public sector. And Government tech accelerators are leading the way. We can export our public sector ‘know how’ and professional services globally
  • We have excellent education institutions and have the opportunity attract international students, but we must be more ambitious with targets, set clear goals and crack on and achieve them.

Wellington’s Mayor must lead on this and that is my commitment.

Go Green

Let’s preserve this beautiful city

  • I want to partner with others to seek pest free status for Wellington. Let’s work together to enhance our bush and bird life
  • I want Council to show leadership with trialling of electric cars. We need to lead by example with an electric fleet and ensure charging stations are readily available around the city
  • Let’s enhance our beaches. We have restored Oriental Bay. Lyall Bay should be next.

Wellington’s Mayor must lead on this and that is my commitment.

Our cultural capital status needs a boost. Investment in the arts, entertainment and events is critical

  • I will continue to promote investment in a 10,000 to 12,000 seat covered-arena for our city and additional hotel capacity to cater for visitors to Wellington
  • I will review other venues and events and their suitability for us to attract talent and audiences to the City
  • Building on the success of our new film museum and convention centre lets make the Wellington Film Festival one of global status along with Toronto and Cannes.

  • Affordable housing requires strong council leadership
  • I will continue to support our libraries in a changing world

  • We can enhance the city’s high sport performance capacity by partnering to to build a national standard high performance centre for the Wellington region
  • We should expand our sports infrastructure with another 50-metre pool at the Aquatic Centre to support growth in learn to swim and aquatic sport
  • We have signed the Capital Cup between Wellington and Beijing. Let’s look for more opportunities to use sport to promote Wellington internationally.
